Eight pedestrian bridges to be built

Traffic wardens will be deployed at the locations to enforce the use of overhead bridges

LAHORE:

The authorities have decided to construct pedestrian bridges at eight locations across the city to improve traffic flow and road safety.

According to a statement, the initiative aims to facilitate motorcyclists and pedestrians, particularly in high-traffic zones.

The traffic police stated that the first phase would include the construction of bridges at Hussain Chowk, Defence Mor and Bhutta Chowk, known for heavy traffic flow due to nearby schools, colleges and commercial hubs.

Officials believe that the bridges will not only ease congestion but also safeguard pedestrians and bikers.

Traffic wardens will be deployed at the locations to enforce the use of overhead bridges and prevent unsafe road crossing.

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has been given a six-month deadline to complete the construction of the pedestrian and biker-friendly bridges.

Officials urged citizens to use the crossings once completed as part of efforts to improve Lahore's traffic management and road safety.

Meanwhile, the traffic police have launched a province-wide crackdown on motorcyclists failing to follow essential safety measures.
