Youth told to use social media carefully

ISLAMABAD:

The federal minister for religious affairs has advised youth to be very careful about sharing any material on social media, stating that sometimes they unwittingly share content containing blasphemy.

"The younger generation should use social media with great caution. At times, they may not even realize that they are sharing content that is offensive or disrespectful," said the minister, Sardar Muhammad Yousuf, while addressing a press conference in Islamabad.

He said posting such content can lead to serious consequences and therefore, parents should keep an eye on their children to ensure that they do not share any offensive posts on social media.

The minister said that in response to the United Nations' declaration of Islamophobia Day, Pakistan observes the Global Day for the Protection of the Honor of the Prophet (pbuh) every year.

He said the Ministry of Religious Affairs has also sent letters to all provinces to mark this day.

He said some malicious elements are committing blasphemy on social media, and such complaints should be reported on the Ministry of Religious Affairs' portal.

"The revered personality through whom we derive our identity is none other than the Hole Prophet (pbuh)," he added.
