A major fraud involving government officials in Punjab's Ramadan package distribution has been uncovered, with police launching an investigation into the matter.

The alleged fraud was committed in the "Ramadan Neghban Package" meant for the public, with officials diverting funds intended for the disadvantaged, Express News reported.

According to a report, officials took advantage of the package by pocketing the funds instead of distributing them to the deserving beneficiaries.

Two government employees, including police officers, and a third individual have been arrested in connection with the fraud, which involved checks worth over Rs1.5 lakh.

Police registered a case against the suspects and recovered the amount that had already been cashed by one of the accused.

The investigation revealed that the suspects had fraudulently cashed 17 checks, while another 92 checks had yet to be cashed. The accused, including government employees Hafiz Abdul Rahman and Mazum Ali, attempted to keep the funds meant for the public.

The investigation was led by Assistant Commissioner Shalimar and Revenue Officer Sabir Ali, who, after apprehending the accused, handed them over to the police. The case was filed under the complaint of Dr. Rizwan, Deputy District Health Officer, at Harbanspura Police Station.

Under the Ramadan package, eligible individuals were supposed to receive a bank draft of Rs10,000 each. However, the accused officials diverted these funds, attempting to cash them instead of delivering them to the rightful recipients.

The police continue to investigate the case, with authorities now working to prevent any further fraudulent activities in the future.
