Dakota Johnson is diving into a bloody role for the upcoming movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Verity. On March 12, 2025, Johnson, 35, was spotted in New York City filming a dramatic scene where she was covered in fake blood.

The scene, in which Johnson’s character Lowen Ashleigh is involved in a car accident with a cyclist, was filmed with Josh Hartnett, who plays Jeremy Crawford, her character’s love interest. The photos depict the 35-year-old actress wearing a long beige peacoat, over-the-ear headphones, orange pants and black boots.

The thriller, which also stars Anne Hathaway as the title character, follows Lowen, a struggling writer who takes on a job to complete the unfinished series of bestselling author Verity Crawford, after a mysterious accident leaves Verity unable to write. As Lowen spends more time with Verity’s family, she uncovers chilling secrets that may point to a darker truth.

The highly anticipated film adaptation of Verity has already garnered significant attention. Hathaway, who plays Verity, is also producing the film alongside director Michael Showalter, with whom she previously worked on The Idea of You.

In February 2025, Hathaway and Hartnett were spotted filming scenes together in New York City.

The release of Verity is part of the growing trend of Colleen Hoover’s novels being adapted for the big screen. Her previous book It Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, was a major box office success in 2024.
