SHO Hasan, Constable Khurram buried

KARACHI: Funeral prayers for two police officials, who were killed on Thursday, were held on Friday.

Inspector Nasirul Hasan’s funeral was held early in the day, after which his body was sent to his hometown of Gujjar Kissa Karia, district Jhelum.

Several officials from the department missed the funeral ceremony as it was unscheduled, one police official explained.

Constable Khurram Butt was laid to rest in Garden Police Headquarters. His funeral was attended by IG Salahuddin Khattak, CCPO Waseem Ahmad, DIG Ghulam Nabi Memon, SP Saddar Javed Akbar, SP Jamshed Town Amir Farooqui, Irshad Ali Sehar, SSP AVCC Abdullah Sheikh and other officials. The IG announced Rs2 million in compensation for their families. Only members from Khurram’s family were able to attend the prayers. He was buried at Sher Shah graveyard.

He was a resident of House No. 67/7, Street No 10-B, Taj Masjid Road and the eldest of three children. His father worked at the fire department. His elder brother, Faisal Butt, also served the police force as a constable but was promoted to the position of ASI. The Sindh police has offered his younger brother Zubair Butt a job.

Khurram joined the police force in 2001. Earlier on, he was appointed at Clifton police station and was transferred to Brigade police station four days before the shooting.

Two motorcyclists had ambushed SHO Nasirul Hasan and Khurram Butt when they were carrying out routine snap-checking in Lines Area. According to police sources, SHO Hasan was on his way to the police station in his Land Cruiser when he was gunned down. Hasan played a vital role in the operation against a political party in Karachi. He was also involved in the arrest of underworld don, Shoaib Khan, and the killing of Siddiq Bocha in Baldia Town during an encounter many years ago.

He served several police stations in the city and worked with the special investigation team.
