Uvas: MoU to preserve wildlife signed

Conference on conservation of animal genetic resource was held at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences

LAHORE:
A memorandum of understanding was signed on Thursday between the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, the Punjab Wildlife Department and the Lahore Zoo to preserve wild animal. The concluding session of the two-day international conference on latest techniques for conservation of animal genetic resource in Pakistan was held at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences on Thursday. It was organised by the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology in collaboration with the Pakistan Wildlife Foundation and sponsored by the Higher Education Commission. Speaking at the occasion, Dr Manzoor Hussain Soomro, the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) chairman said that if higher education institutions did not work in close collaboration with their student, students would face constraints in carrying research on specialised latest equipment. He said that the higher education institutions needed to pool resources. He said that population was increasing rapidly but natural resources were depleting. Punjab Wildlife Director General Nasrullaha Khan was also present.
