Elon Musk has suggested Ukraine was behind a significant cyber attack on X (formerly Twitter) that caused widespread outages on Monday. Tens of thousands of users reported issues, with at least three major disruptions to the website and app throughout the day.

Pro-Palestinian hacker group Dark Storm Team claimed responsibility, identifying it as a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack.

In a Telegram post, they claimed to have successfully "taken Twitter offline" and shared a screenshot showing a real-time connectivity status page with failed connection attempts from various locations around the globe.

The group is known for targeting NATO countries and entities supporting Israel amid the genocide in Gaza, especially following Hamas' October 7, 2023, attack.

However, Musk took to X, implying that a "large, coordinated group and/or a country" was involved in the attack. He remarked that while cyberattacks are frequent, this one had “a lot of resources” behind it.

Musk later told Fox News’ Larry Kudlow that the attack originated from "IP addresses in the Ukraine area."

The DDoS attacks overwhelmed X's servers, causing outages that led to more than 40,000 reports on Downdetector.

Dark Storm Team's connection to Russia and other groups remains unconfirmed, but experts, including Orange Cyberdefense, suggest there are strong links.
