Fire breaks out at timber market warehouse in Karachi

Over two hours of firefighting in timber market contained the blaze, no casualties reported.

A fire broke out at a timber warehouse in the Perana Haji Camp area on Monday, causing extensive damage to property but resulting in no casualties.

According to reports, the blaze started in a warehouse located in the Napier area near Eye Spenser Hospital. The fire spread rapidly due to the large quantity of wood stored inside, engulfing the warehouse and destroying four rickshaws and three motorcycles parked behind the building.

The Karachi Fire Brigade responded by dispatching four fire tenders to the site. Given the intensity of the fire, additional resources, including a water tanker from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and two more fire tenders, were deployed. The firefighting operation lasted over two and a half hours, after which cooling efforts continued for another two hours.

A fire brigade spokesperson confirmed that the warehouse, which housed wooden doors and other stock, was completely destroyed. However, no injuries were reported.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire. Investigations are underway, with local police, rangers, and rescue teams present at the site. The Water Corporation declared an emergency at the Nepa plant hydrant and provided continuous water supply to support firefighting efforts.
