Precast roof collapse kills six girls

Four injured, 10 trapped in debris in the incident at Afghan Camp

KARACHI:

A family belonging to Bannu was devastated when the house they were sleeping in collapsed on them late on Saturday night.

Six young girls lost their lives and four others sustained injuries when the roof of an under-construction house collapsed in Afghan Camp Gulshan-e-Maymar late Saturday night, police said.

According to officials, 10 people were trapped under the debris after the structure, made of precast concrete, caved in due to the excessive weight of sand and gravel.

Construction work was underway and construction materials were shifted to the rooftop, which could not bear the weight and collapsed in the night.

Locals and rescue teams rushed to the scene and pulled out the victims, who were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Doctors confirmed that six girls, aged between three and 15, had died, while four other family members, including a 40-year-old man and a three-year-old boy, were injured. The family belonged to Bannu, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Police identified the deceased as Nasreen (7), Sadia (15), Ayesha (3), Kainat (8), Aishal (8), and Sanodia (9), while the injured were named as Mikail (40), Nasira (37), Noman (3), and Asif (7).

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, offering prayers for the victims and condolences to the grieving family. He also prayed for strength and patience for the bereaved.
