K-P seeks Koh-e-Suleiman wildlife conservancy status

K-P government has urged federal government to declare the mountain ranges as a trans-boundary wildlife conservancy.

PESHAWAR:

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has reached out to the federal government, requesting the declaration of the entire Koh-e-Suleiman mountain range as a wildlife conservancy.

Following directives from Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, the K-P Forest and Wildlife Department has sent an official letter to the Ministry of Environmental Coordination, emphasizing the need for inter-provincial cooperation between Punjab, Balochistan, and K-P to protect the region's unique biodiversity.

The letter highlights the ecological importance of Koh-e-Suleiman, which is home to rare flora and fauna. It stresses that preserving this biodiversity will not only increase global recognition of the region but also help mitigate the adverse effects of climate change while ensuring the well-being of local communities.

The letter further states that the K-P government has already undertaken various initiatives in the Koh-e-Suleiman area within its territorial boundaries. However, since the mountain range spans across Balochistan and Punjab, a unified strategy involving all three provinces is essential for effectively protecting its rare wildlife and plant species.

The K-P government has urged the federal government to approach the provincial governments of Punjab and Balochistan to declare the mountain range within their jurisdictions as a trans-boundary wildlife conservancy. This would help ensure the effective management of wildlife across the entire region.
