Luigi Mangione writes a letter to a nursing student, sharing a glimpse into his life while incarcerated.

Luigi Mangione, facing state and federal murder charges in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has given a rare personal insight into his daily life behind bars. In a letter to a nursing student named Genevieve, Mangione shared details of his routine and offered a book recommendation.

"My usual routine includes reading, eating lots of ramen, exercising, and spending time with my fellow brothers here," he wrote. He mentioned that he and other inmates have weekly chess nights, which he described as “a fun way to pass time together.”

Knowing Genevieve was also a book lover, Mangione recommended Self-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself by Kristin Neff. "This book was a great source of support for me during my freshman year of college," he said.

Despite his current legal battle, Mangione expressed encouragement to Genevieve as she pursues her nursing degree. "I understand the feeling of wanting to give up at times. Navigating young adulthood can be tough, but I believe we can all find our way through," he wrote, adding, “Nurses truly deserve more respect in our healthcare system.”

In his letter, Mangione wished Genevieve well as she nears graduation, writing, "You have a bright future ahead."

Mangione, who has pleaded not guilty to the murder and terrorism charges, remains in federal custody as his legal team challenges the evidence. His lawyer has raised concerns over possible constitutional violations in his arrest, and a trial date has yet to be set.
