BADIN:

A prisoner at District Jail Badin died due to alleged torture while he was also ill. The 30-year-old inmate, Muhammad Yousuf, had been shifted from Badin to Hyderabad Civil Hospital. Before his death, two videos went viral on social media, in one video the prisoner accused jail authorities of torturing him while in the second, he also stated that he was sick and suffering from stomach pain.

The brother of the prisoner, Gulab Qamrani, also accused the jail administration of torturing Yousuf and said that his brother fell ill due to severe physical abuse by prison staff and alleged that Yousuf was subjected to brutal torture, which caused his death.

Jail authorities, however, said that the prisoner was allegedly a drug addict and he was in jail in a drug-related case. They said, he was first taken to Badin Civil Hospital and later shifted to Hyderabad Civil Hospital due to his condition.

The authorities denied any allegations of torture, asserting that the prisoner died due to his medical condition.

Relatives, political and social circles in Badin have said that reports of torture and bribery within District Jail Badin are common. They alleged that jail authorities have previously subjected several prisoners to torture for not paying them money.
