Karachi is expected to experience partial heatwave-like conditions over the weekend, with temperatures rising to 38°C, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted.

According to PMD officials, the temperature in the city will be higher on Saturday and Sunday, with maximum readings of up to 38°C, Express News reported.

However, they reassured the public that these conditions will not lead to an official heatwave.

"The humidity levels will range between 15 to 25 percent," said a spokesperson for the department.

"Despite the increase in temperature, there is no risk of a heatwave, which typically occurs when temperatures exceed 40°C, coupled with high humidity and a continued lack of sea breeze—conditions that we do not expect in the coming days."

A heatwave is generally characterised by persistent hot conditions, exceeding 40°C, along with stagnant air and high moisture content in the atmosphere, which can be dangerous for public health. However, officials confirmed that the city will not experience such extreme weather during this period.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions during the increased heat, but the situation does not present the same risks typically associated with a full heatwave.
