The District Health Authority (DHA) has kicked off an advance anti-dengue campaign in 80 union councils (UCs) categorised as high-risk and low-risk areas. Door-to-door dengue larvae detection and sweeping operations have formally begun, with additional dengue teams deployed in areas identified as high-risk from last year's outbreak.
The campaign is focused on areas that reported a high number of dengue cases last year. These include Chak Jalal Din, Girja, Kotha Kalan, parts of Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantonment's CTR-5, as well as multiple localities in Shakrial and Rawal Town. Among the identified high-risk zones, 30 UCs have been classified as high-risk, while 50 are categorised as low-risk.
DHA Chief Executive Dr Asif Arbab Niazi, says in the first phase, the anti-dengue campaign is actively being conducted in both high-risk and low-risk UCs. The sweeping operation in all 80 designated UCs will be completed before the official dengue season begins, after which the campaign will be expanded further, he adds.
Dr Niazi emphasised that an intensive anti-dengue drive in high-risk areas would significantly reduce the threat of dengue during the peak season.
He further stressed that eradicating dengue entirely is only possible if there is complete public awareness and active participation from citizens.
