Roosters vs Broncos 14-50: Brisbane annihilate Sydney in the NRL
The Brisbane Broncos secured a dominant 50-14 win over the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium, with Selwyn Cobbo scoring a hat-trick in a commanding performance.
The match started on a sour note for the Roosters when Victor Radley was forced off in the opening minutes following a head clash with James Tedesco. The Roosters, already dealing with several key absences, struggled to match Brisbane’s intensity as the Broncos took control early.
Ben Hunt’s cut-out pass created space for Jesse Arthars, who set up Gehamat Shibasaki for the opening try. Payne Haas then produced a superb offload for Cory Paix to extend the lead. A combination of Paix and Patrick Carrigan sent Jack Gosiewski over from close range, giving the Broncos a 20-4 lead at halftime.
Brisbane continued their dominance in the second half, with a freakish long-range effort involving three kicks leading to Cobbo’s first try. Adam Reynolds' kick was fumbled by the Roosters, allowing Cobbo to clean up and score his second just minutes later.
Hunt, in his return to Brisbane, handled twice in another long-range play and finished it off with a try in the corner. Reece Walsh and Jesse Arthars added their names to the scoresheet as the Broncos ran rampant.
Dominic Young crossed twice for the Roosters, while Sandon Smith added a third, but the home side struggled to contain Brisbane’s relentless attack. Reynolds kicked six goals from nine attempts and added a penalty goal to round out the Broncos' 50-point haul.
Brisbane’s victory underlined their title credentials, while the Roosters will be left assessing their growing injury concerns, including Radley’s early exit.
