Four children killed in hut fire
Four children died on the spot after a fire broke out in a hut in the Qasimwala area of Cholistan, while a 50-year-old woman was severely injured.
According to a police spokesman, the victims belonged to a family of labourers from the Rajanpur district who had been brought to the area to work in sugarcane fields owned by a local grower, Chaudhry Bilal.
The family had set up a temporary hut at in fields for shelter.
The incident occurred at night when the woman, identified 50-year-old Naziran Bibi, was burning dried sugarcane remnants to prepare tea.
The fire quickly spread, engulfing the hut and resulting in the deaths of four children: one-year-old Muqaddas Bibi, two-year-old Bilal, three-year-old Shabana and four-year-old Aliza.
The children died on the spot, while Naziran Bibi suffered severe burn injuries and was rushed to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Liaquatpur.
Her condition was reported to be critical, with most of her body severely burnt.
The incident was reported to the authorities through the Police Helpline 15. Station House Officer (SHO) Naveed Abid of Derawar and his team reached the scene.
The bodies of the children were sent to Rajanpur for burial. Derawar police registered a preliminary report and launched an investigation.
