Man held for murder over marriage

Social media, public announcements help identify victim

Police have apprehended a suspect along with the murder weapon for killing a woman textile mill worker.

The accused took the victim's mobile phone and national identity card, leaving her unidentified for several days while her body remained in the hospital without claim.

Additionally, after committing the murder, the accused extorted money from the victim's family through Easypaisa.

On February 20, a 23-year-old unidentified woman's body was recovered in an empty plot near Government School in Chak 219-RB, Talianwala, under the jurisdiction of Razaabad police station.

The woman had been shot dead and abandoned, leading to the registration of case by Raza Abad Police.

SP Lyallpur TownRana Rehman Qadir assigned SHO Razaabad, Qaiser Mukhtar Gujjar, to investigate the case.

Police track down the victim's family within 10 days through social media, advertisements and public announcements.

The deceased was identified as Nimra, a resident of Rahim Yar Khan, who worked at a local textile mill.

Upon the victim's insistence to get married, the suspect Ahmad Raza allegedly decided to kill her. On the girl's repeated insistence on marriage, the accused took her from the factory with him on February 20 in the evening and after feeding her from an eatery on the way, took her to the area falling in the jurisdiction of Raza Abad police station, shot her in the head and threw her body in an empty plot before escaping.

Police conducted raids at multiple locations and utilised technical resources to nab the accused. During interrogation, Ahmad Raza confessed to the murder, stating that he killed Nimra because she repeatedly insisted on marriage, which his family disapproved of.
