With the start of Ramazan, inflation has once again surged, despite authorities' claims of effectively controlling it.
Shopkeepers are openly flouting official price lists, selling meat, milk, vegetables, and fruits at arbitrary prices without any intervention from the relevant authorities.
On Sunday, the Deputy Commissioner visited vegetable and fruit markets, but no relief was provided to the public.
The provincial government has issued strict instructions to ensure the availability of affordable and quality items during Ramazan but to no avail.
The Food Department has also set up a complaint cell. As per government directives, DCs in all districts have been instructed to enforce official price lists.
The district administration has issued official prices for meat, milk, yogurt, pulses, vegetables, and fruits, but inflation remains uncontrolled.
In the city, meat is being sold at Rs1,200 per kilo, minced meat at Rs1,250 per kilogram, while milk is priced at Rs240 per liter, and yogurt at Rs250 per kilo. Shopkeepers are also selling fruits and vegetables at arbitrary prices.
Officials of the Peshawar district administration are visiting vegetable and fruit markets every morning.
