HYDERABAD:

Qaumi Awami Tehreek's president Ayaz Latif Palijo has said the Sindh government should condemn President Asif Ali Zardari's alleged approval for construction of six canals on the Indus River.

In a statement on Saturday, Palijo asked the provincial assembly to pass a resolution against the project in question.

"The PPP's provincial ministers are trying to hoodwink the public by asserting that the canals are not going to be built," he said. "The PPP is attempting to weaken the burgeoning protest movement in Sindh against the corporate farming and the canals by misleading the people with regard to its stance."

He cautioned the people against subscribing to the ruling party's chicanery. Palijo deplored that the rulers have grown indifferent to the people of the province as they show no reaction to the province-wide protests taking place everyday.

He warned that controversial projects like the canals and the corporate farming can prove detrimental for the country as well.
