Three cops injured as suspects hurl grenade at police station

Home Minister orders investigation into the incident

KARACHI:

Three policemen sustained injuries when unknown suspects, riding a motorcycle, hurled a hand grenade at Preedy police station in South Zone.

The grenade exploded with a loud sound and also damaged a high-roof and a car parked in the police station. Panic gripped the area after the explosion.

The police called the Bomb Disposal Squad and Crime Scene Unit for necessary legal and preventive measures.

Cops injured in the blast were identified as Arshad, Aamir and Riaz. Their condition is stated to be out of danger.

Talking to the media people, SSP South Mahzoor Ali confirmed that a hand grenade was thrown at the Preedy police station in late hours of previous night.

No organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. He further mentioned that efforts are being made to obtain CCTV footage of the incident from cameras installed in the area to track down the attackers.

The attack on the police station was carried out using an RGD-5 grenade, he mentioned.

Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar has taken notice of the grenade attack on Preedy police station. He ordered an investigation into the incident and said that the security in the city be made effective.

Lanjar also contacted the SSP South and inquired about the details of the incident from senior police officials and CTD authorities.

Lanjar was informed that an investigation is already on keeping in view different aspects. He was also informed that CCTV footage of the incident has been obtained.
