Students observe Civil Defence Day with demos
To commemorate International Civil Defence Day, an impressive civil defence demonstration was held at Government Waqarun Nisa Postgraduate College Rawalpindi on Saturday.
Various rescue operations, including fire extinguishing, bomb explosion management, and rescuing individuals trapped in multi-story buildings, including female students, were showcased. Additionally, in the event of an enemy airstrike, damage control and the disposal of unexploded bombs were carried out by specially equipped personnel using protective kits.
The demonstration involved 300 college students who actively participated in the event. The special guests included Abdullah Khan, Assistant Commissioner (Headquarters), and Madam Shireen Gul, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), while the host District Officer for Civil Defence was Talib Hussain.
During the demonstration, a simulated civilian scenario was created in the ground area, where an unexpected air attack by the enemy triggered civil defence volunteers to sound the siren and alert the citizens. First aid was provided to the injured on-site, and for those critically wounded, Rescue 1122 was called to transport them to the hospital via ambulance.
Meanwhile, the Civil Defence's Bomb Disposal Unit continued its search for explosive materials, safely neutralising an unexploded bomb in protective gear.
A small fire was deliberately ignited on the ground using oil and solid materials. Trained school students swiftly extinguished it using fire extinguishers and water. During the demonstration, another fire broke out on the rooftop due to the enemy airstrike, which Rescue 1122 managed to control. The building's access was blocked, and the Civil Defence volunteers rescued the trapped students using rescue bags and chair nets, transferring them to the hospital.
A stall for bomb disposal and firefighting was also set up. At the conclusion of the event, Shireen Gul, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rawalpindi, addressed the attendees, praising the practical civil defence demonstration.
