Court hands murderer death penalty

FAISALABAD:

District and Sessions Judge Rehan Bashir handed down death sentence to a man accused of killing his wife in the Saddar area.

According to the prosecution, Muhammad Shehzad, a resident of Chak 215RB, had shot dead his wife Maria Maqsood over a domestic dispute on August 22, 2022.

After observing the evidence and witness statements, the judge announced death penalty for Shehzad under Section 302B of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and directed him to pay Rs500,000 as compensation to the heirs of the deceased under Section 544-A of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

The convict would have to undergo imprisonment for six months if he would failed to pay the compensation.

The court also handed down five-year imprisonment to the convict under Section 13-2(a) of the Punjab Arms Amendment Ordinance 2015 over possessing an illegal weapon.

The convict was also directed to pay Rs20,000 as fine, otherwise he would face an additional term of three months in jail.

Meanwhile, the regional police officer (RPO) of Faisalabad suspended the station house officer (SHO) of Roshanwala police station on the charge of abuse of powers.

Police said on Thursday that RPO Zeeshan Asghar had received complaints against SHO Muhammad Waseem that he had indulged in abuse of powers and his performance was also not up to the mark.
