The Saudi government has announced a special initiative to promote Quranic learning during the holy month of Ramadan, Express News reported.

Special Quran courses will be organised at the Grand Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) and the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid al-Nabwi) where participants will receive instructions on correct recitation, Tajweed, and articulation.

In addition to these courses, a global educational project will be launched to further encourage religious engagement during Ramadan.

The programme will be supervised by expert teachers, offering participants an opportunity to learn Quran memorisation, recitation, and Tajweed in a comprehensive and personalised manner.

Dr Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais the head of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, emphasized that the programme will be designed to meet individual learning needs and improve participants’ understanding and ability to recite the Quran correctly.

This initiative aims to make Quranic education more accessible to people around the world and contribute to their spiritual growth during the sacred month.

On the other hand, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) predicted that Ramadan 2025 would likely begin on March 2, based on its calculations of the moon’s visibility.

According to a statement from SUPARCO, the new moon occurred at 5:45 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST) on February 28, 2025, and the moon’s age was 12 hours at sunset on that day.

However, due to the moon’s low altitude and distance from Earth, it was difficult to observe with the naked eye.

SUPARCO explained that the angle between the moon and the sun on February 28 was just 7 degrees, making it impossible for the human eye to detect the crescent.

As a result, the start of Ramadan in Pakistan was expected to be on March 2, 2025, with the first day of fasting likely following that date.

The agency also noted that the crescent moon might have been visible in Saudi Arabia on February 28, meaning Ramadan there could have begun on March 1, 2025.

The Eid ul-Fitr crescent was expected to be sighted on March 30, with Eid possibly falling on March 31, 2025.

SUPARCO clarified that the final decision regarding the sighting of the Ramadan and Eid crescents would rest with Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
