Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mother, Janice Smalls, is facing legal action over her majority stake in Bad Boy Entertainment, with co-founder Kirk Burrowes accusing her of fraud, intimidation, and financial concealment.
According to legal documents obtained by Daily Mail, Burrowes claims that in 1996, Diddy violently coerced him into signing away his 25% ownership stake in the company, which was later transferred to Smalls. He alleges that Diddy and Bad Boy attorney Kenneth Meiselas ambushed him in his New York office, with Diddy wielding a baseball bat to intimidate him into surrendering his shares.
Burrowes, who now claims to be homeless, states that Smalls was not physically present but orchestrated the scheme and later pretended to be unaware of the situation when he sought her guidance. He argues that he was blacklisted from the music industry, financially sabotaged, and denied the wealth he helped generate for the label.
The lawsuit demands $100,000 in owed earnings, reinstatement of Burrowes’ 25% ownership, annual profit shares, and a full forensic audit of Bad Boy Entertainment’s finances.
This lawsuit comes amid growing scrutiny over Diddy’s past dealings with former Bad Boy artists. In 2023, Diddy returned publishing rights to Ma$e, The LOX, and 112, but ex-Bad Boy rapper Mark Curry dismissed the move, claiming the rights had lost their value.
As legal battles mount, the lawsuit against Smalls adds another layer of controversy to the legacy of Bad Boy Entertainment.
