HDAP warns of life-saving medical devices' shortage

Hospitals and laboratories are facing a severe shortage of essential medical equipment. Drap has discontinued the extension for the registration of imported medical devices, preventing importers from bringing in new equipment.

According to Muhammad Umar, a founding member of the Healthcare Devices Association of Pakistan (HDAP), 90% of medical devices are imported. Due to the complex registration process not being completed on time, a major crisis could arise.

Muhammad Umar stated that DRAP has ended the extension for the registration of imported medical devices. As a result, hospitals, laboratories, and healthcare centers are at risk of experiencing a severe shortage of life-saving medical devices.

DRAP has imposed a ban on imports, which could lead to a critical shortage of medical supplies ranging from syringes to large testing machines in hospitals.

Muhammad Umar described this as a national health crisis.
