The music industry is in mourning following the death of the legendary singer Roberta Flack, known for timeless hits like “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” and “Killing Me Softly With His Song.”

Flack passed away at the age of 88 on Monday, February 24, 2025, surrounded by her family, leaving behind a legacy that reshaped the landscapes of pop and R&B music.

Throughout her career, Flack claimed several chart-topping hits, including a six-week run at No. 1 with “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” in 1972 and reaching No. 2 with “The Closer I Get To You” in collaboration with Donny Hathaway in 1978. Her profound musical contributions were celebrated by peers and fans alike.

Dionne Warwick reflected on her deep personal connection with Flack, stating, “Losing friends, especially ones that feel more like family as I’m experiencing, hearing of my dear friend – Professor Roberta Flack. We now say Rest In Peace and receive the loving award the Heavenly Father has for her. I’ll miss our conversation about the journey through music we would have, as well as the love of the music we have been able to share. You will be missed, dear friend.”

Questlove shared his sentiment on Instagram, saying, “Thank You Roberta Flack. Rest In Melody.” Similarly, Kelly Rowland expressed her sorrow on X, “Our Dear Ms.Roberta Flack has ascended beyond but what beauty she has left us with!!
