The Sindh Police have been accused of harassing and illegally detaining officials from the Narcotics Control Wing of the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department in an attempt to obstruct a raid in Matiari district.
In a formal complaint to the department's director general, the wing's director, Muhammad Ali Baloch, alleged that Saeedabad Taluka DSP Manzoor Ahmed Lakhi and Saeedabad police station SHO Shah Zaman Chandio, were responsible for the unlawful detention of their officials.
According to Baloch, Circle Officer Jawed Ahmed Memon was conducting a raid when he was illegally detained along with his government vehicle. "It is, therefore, requested that a reference may kindly be sent to the IGP Sindh and the chairman of the Anti-Corruption Establishment Sindh," Baloch stated in his complaint.
The incident reportedly took place a week ago, with Memon officially lodging a complaint on February 17. An anonymous official from the wing revealed that they had received intelligence regarding the smuggling of ice and heroin on Bakhar Jamali Road in Saeedabad Taluka. However, when they arrived at the location to conduct the raid, police allegedly intercepted them and detained the team for around five hours.
Matiari SSP Faisal Memon, while speaking to the media, gave a different account. He claimed that on February 15, police received a complaint about Memon conducting snap checks on vehicles in the area along with some civilians, triggering police intervention.
