Degree programmes resume in govt colleges

The two-year graduation programme, which had been stalled for many years in government colleges of Karachi due to the ban imposed by Higher Education Commission, has now been restored in the form of a 4-year degree programme and the University of Karachi has issued affiliation of BS four-year degree programmes to 7 colleges in various disciplines.
These colleges have been allowed to admit students in relevant subjects for graduation, opening a new "window of opportunity". Colleges have been permitted to offer degree programs in disciplines such as Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, BBA, Economics & Finance, and Health & Physical Education & Sports Science. The colleges granted permission for this programme include DJ Science College, Govt College of Physical Education, PECHS Girls College, Govt College of Commerce & Economics, Govt Degree Science & Commerce College FB Area, and Pakistan Ship owners Govt College.
The Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid Iraqi, told The Express Tribune that the university had received applications from 10 government colleges for the four-year BS programme, out of which seven colleges were granted affiliation after analysis, that they were meeting the required standards.
