PTI seeks court's permission to hold rally

LAHORE:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking permission to hold a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan on March 22.

PTI's Senior Vice President for Central Punjab, Akmal Khan, filed a petition against the authorities' inaction on their application for the event.

The petition names the Chief Secretary Punjab, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Lahore, DIG Operations, Commissioner Lahore Division, Deputy Commissioner Lahore, and other officials as respondents.

The petitioner stated that an application had been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner's office requesting permission for the rally, but no decision had been communicated.

Khan argued that March 23 holds historical significance as the day when the Pakistan Resolution was passed in 1940.

He asserted that it is the right of every patriotic citizen and political party to celebrate the occasion. PTI, as one of the largest political parties, seeks to commemorate the day peacefully, and under Article 4 of the Constitution, the respondents are bound to facilitate public gatherings without obstruction.

The petition also raised concerns over political victimization, describing it as a practice that undermines the democratic process.
