Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man 4’ delayed to avoid Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’

Spider-Man 4 moves release date by a week, avoiding a clash with Nolan’s The Odyssey and securing a better IMAX slot.

Sony Pictures has officially pushed back the release date for Spider-Man 4, starring Tom Holland, by one week to July 31, 2026.

The shift strategically moves the Marvel blockbuster further from Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which is set to debut on July 17, 2026, also featuring Holland.

The adjustment allows The Odyssey to dominate IMAX and premium large-format screens for two weeks before Spider-Man 4 enters the box office race. Nolan, known for shooting his films with IMAX cameras, historically secures extended theatrical runs in premium auditoriums. By delaying Spider-Man 4, Sony ensures a stronger positioning for its blockbuster without competing for IMAX screens against Nolan’s epic.

The upcoming Spider-Man 4 will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, but details about its cast remain uncertain. While Tom Holland is confirmed to reprise his role as Peter Parker, it’s unclear if Zendaya will return as MJ. Notably, Zendaya is also set to star in The Odyssey, which is a high-profile adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey featuring Matt Damon as Odysseus alongside a star-studded cast, including Mia Goth, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.

Production on Spider-Man 4 is expected to begin this summer. The film follows the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which shattered box office records with its multiversal storyline.
