LAHORE:

President Asif Ali Zardari is going to arrive today in Punjab's provincial capital for a two-day visit during which he is expected to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Governor House.

Zardari, who is the co-chairman of the PPP, will discuss the issues that his party is facing in Punjab.

According to sources, during his stay in Lahore, the PPP supreme leader will also hold a meeting with his party's provincial leadership. He is also scheduled to attend a derby at the Lahore Race Club as the chief guest.

Sources in the PPP claimed that Zardari's stay at the Punjab Governor House will give more power to the Punjab governor, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, who belongs to the PPP.

The PPP which was once the largest party of the country has been largely replaced in Punjab, the country's political powerhouse, with Imran Khan's PTI and the PML-N.

Some political analysts believe that in order for the PPP to reclaim its territory in Punjab, it will have to attract the anti-PML-N voters through actual confrontation with Sharif's party, which, ironically, has been now the PPP's partner since the ouster of Imran Khan in April 2022.

The PPP has been propping up the PML-N led coalition government formed after February 8, 2024 general elections without becoming a part of it while it was part of the coalition government formed after the collapse of the PTI government in the wake of a vote of no-confidence.
