The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has approved a special Ramadan/Eid package for 1 million families in the province and granted approval for renaming the Arbab Niaz Stadium after Imran Khan.
The K-P government had decided earlier to rename the stadium —the lone international cricketing venue in the province — after the PTI founder to honour the former prime minister’s pivotal role in shaping the nation’s sports landscape.
K-P Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur signed a summary from the sports department a day ago, proposing the renaming of the stadium, and today the cabinet session approved it.
With the decision to rename Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium to 'Imran Khan Cricket Stadium' approved, the cabinet session also made key decisions to provide relief to the people of the province during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to Express News, the CM emphasised that the package will be distributed transparently, ensuring that the underprivileged, orphans, and transgender individuals receive their share. He further stressed that families affected by terrorism would also be included in the initiative.
The distribution of the package is expected to be completed before the 15th of Ramadan. CM Gandapur also confirmed that government salaries and pensions would be paid by February 25.
In the cabinet meeting, the approval was granted for an annual grant of Rs4.92 million for 15 orphan students enrolled at Abbottabad Public School.
The cabinet also approved funding for the Cadet College Swat Phase-III project, reflecting an increase in land costs as per the Supreme Court’s ruling. A sum of Rs1,028.673 million was also approved for the salaries of 3,687 teachers under the Elementary and Secondary Education Foundation.
Other significant decisions included amendments to the Motor Vehicle Rules of 1969 to improve inspection of bus terminals, as well as the approval of a grant for the Department of Auqaf.
The cabinet also approved a monthly internship stipend of Rs31,000 for BS Nursing graduates and authorised amendments to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Government Rules of Business 1985 for the departments of Science, Technology, and Information Technology.
