The Rock announced for WWE Smackdown; possible Wrestlemania 41 setup?
The Rock is set to return to WWE programming on Friday night’s edition of “SmackDown” as the build to WrestleMania 41 and the upcoming Elimination Chamber event gains momentum.
“Bold and disruptive, unpredictable and dangerous,” The Rock wrote on his social media accounts.
“The Final Boss returns, LIVE on #SmackDown tomorrow at 8ET/7T on @USA Network.”
WWE confirmed the announcement in a press release, with Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque stating: “Strap in. When The Final Boss shows up at this time of year, the audience knows absolutely anything is possible. Everything could change in an instant.”
The Rock last appeared on WWE television at “NXT” New Year's Evil on 7 January, joining his daughter, “NXT” General Manager Ava, backstage before addressing his history with Cody Rhodes and his enthusiasm for performing in front of the live crowd.
His announement has led fans to wonder whether or not Rock will be involved in Wrestlemania 41 in any capacity. A dream match with his cousin Roman Reigns could be on the cards.
Rock's last main roster appearance saw him crown Roman Reigns as the one true tribal chief.
Beyond The Rock’s return, SmackDown will feature a WWE Tag Team Championship match, with #DIY defending their titles against Pretty Deadly in their first defence since winning at the Royal Rumble.
Additionally, Solo Sikoa will return to in-ring action, teaming with Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga in a six-man tag match against Damian Priest, Braun Strowman and Rhodes. Jimmy Uso is also scheduled to face Drew McIntyre in singles competition.
