Will Young scores first century of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in opening match
New Zealand opener Will Young notched up his 4th ODI half-century in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 opener against Pakistan at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.
He opened the innings as New Zealand's opener, scoring 100* in 108 balls. This is his maiden ICC ODI tournament 100.
Interestingly, New Zealand's Young was the 1st official batter (as opener) in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 edition, scoring 100 in the first innings of the tournament as well.
The right-hander anchored the Kiwi innings, playing a composed knock under pressure as Pakistan’s pacers tested the top order, taking 3 wickets as New Zealand stood 125-3
Young, who made his ODI debut in 2020, has been a steady performer for New Zealand.
Though not yet a marquee name, his ability to absorb pressure and build an innings has made him a vital cog in New Zealand’s batting unit.
Facing a disciplined Pakistan attack led by Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah, Young mixed caution with aggression, finding gaps and rotating the strike effectively.
His innings laid a solid foundation for New Zealand recover from losing early wickets, with an aim to post a competitive total in the high-stakes clash.
