The Islamabad High Court has ordered the restoration of the Children's Park in Sector E-11 to its original condition within two weeks. According to residents, green areas or public parks cannot be converted into commercial areas.
The land grabbers had dismantled the children's swings at the park and started illegal constructions with heavy machinery. Justice Muhammad Asif of the Islamabad High Court heard a petition from local residents against the illegal constructions at the Children's Park in E-11.
The residents of E-11 had approached the Islamabad High Court to challenge the encroachment and occupation of the park. The petitioners, led by Advocate Kashif Ali Malik along with other lawyers, argued that under the CDA Ordinance, green areas or public parks cannot be converted into commercial zones.
Armed individuals had entered the Children's Park with heavy machinery, removed the children's swings, and started illegal construction, which violated the rights of the petitioners and other residents of E-11. Among the affected residents is a senior judge from the Lahore High Court.
Despite bringing the matter to the attention of the CDA, the authority failed to stop the illegal constructions and encroachments.
