The BAFTA Film Awards 2025 saw British Academy voters distribute honors evenly, but Edward Berger’s Conclave took the top prize for Best Film.
The Vatican thriller, which led with 11 nominations, tied for the most wins of the night with The Brutalist, each securing four awards.
Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, a 3.5-hour American epic, claimed victories in Best Director for Corbet and Best Leading Actor for Adrien Brody. Meanwhile, Mikey Madison shocked many by winning Best Leading Actress for Anora, outperforming expected frontrunner Demi Moore (The Substance). Sean Baker’s sex worker comedy took home two awards, including Best Casting.
Other major winners included Emilia Pérez and Dune: Part Two, both securing two awards. Wicked, A Real Pain, and Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl also saw dual wins. In a surprising snub, James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown failed to convert any of its six nominations into a win.
The awards largely avoided controversy, though Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofia Gascón was absent following backlash over historic racist tweets. Hosted by David Tennant, the ceremony included light political humor, with remarks about Donald Trump cut from the BBC broadcast.
With the Oscars approaching on March 2, the BAFTAs often serve as a key predictor of Academy Award winners. Stay tuned to see if these results align with Hollywood’s biggest night.
