A police officer was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Karachi’s Orangi Town, near Khairabad’s Aman Chowk, Express News reported.
The officer, identified as 40-year-old Imran, was critically injured in the attack and succumbed to his wounds while being transported to the hospital.
According to reports from Chhipa authorities, the officer was in uniform and on duty in the Manghopir police station area at the time of the attack.
Initial investigations suggest that three unknown assailants chased and shot the officer.
SSP West spokesperson confirmed that the police have recovered seven bullet shells from the crime scene, and further investigations are underway.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori had earlier called for urgent action to tackle street crimes and public safety, urging swift responses like the arrest of Afaq Ahmed. In a meeting with Federal Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Tessori also discussed security, law enforcement, and the promotion of cricket, praising the renovation of the National Stadium.
Meanwhile, MQM chairman Afaq Ahmed, along with 10 others, was remanded into judicial custody over charges related to inciting violence, including the burning of a tanker in Landhi.
The prosecutor argued it was an act of terrorism, while the defence attributed it to public frustration over the issue of live being being claimed by speeding dumpers in the city.
The court had later rejected the remand request and sent Ahmed to jail.
