Bhagat Singh's historic haveli to be restored
Bhagat Singh became a national icon of resistance and bravery and remains so in India.
Director General of the Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) Muhammad Asif Chaudhry has said that Bhagat Singh's historic haveli, a treasured heritage site, would receive full government support for its preservation.
He expressed these views during a meeting with Sardar Sarabjit Singh Malhi, the nephew of freedom movement hero Bhagat Singh, who arrived from Canada. The two discussed matters of mutual interest, including heritage preservation and strengthening historical ties.
Sardar Sarabjit Singh Malhi was accompanied by Saqib Virk, the caretaker of Bhagat Singh's historic haveli in Chak 105 Bange, Tehsil Jaranwala.
Welcoming the guests, the FDA chief acknowledged the significance of their visit and reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to preserving Bhagat Singh's legacy.
During the meeting, Muhammad Asif Chaudhry paid tribute to Bhagat Singh's courage and his unwavering fight against colonial rule.
Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome, Sardar Sarabjit Singh Malhi lauded the FDA's efforts in maintaining the site and commended the people of Faisalabad for their hospitality.
He described his visit as deeply memorable and appreciated the official and social warmth extended to him.
Later, Malhi also met with Commissioner Faisalabad, Maryam Khan, at her office, where Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Nadeem Nasser, Additional Commissioner Coordination Amer Reza, and Saqib Virk were also present.
Commissioner Maryam Khan assured Malhi that the road leading to Bhagat Singh's haveli in Chak 105 Jaranwala would be constructed and repaired on a priority basis.
In a significant announcement, the Commissioner revealed plans to promote the Punjabi language in public schools across the division. She also declared that a Punjabi mushaira (poetry event) would be organized in Faisalabad and expressed her intention to personally visit Bhagat Singh's haveli.
Sardar Sarabjit Singh Malhi, who has visited Faisalabad three times, expressed his happiness in reconnecting with the land of his ancestors.
He emphasised the importance of preserving Bhagat Singh's legacy for future generations and strengthening historical bonds between communities.
