RAWALPINDI:

The much-publicised gang rape case involving a married woman in Rawalpindi's New Town area has taken a dramatic turn, as the complainant doubled down on the allegations.

According to the police, the complainant not only refused a DNA test but also submitted an affidavit in court stating that no gang rape had occurred.

The investigating officer also declared both parties as dishonest.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Afshan Ijaz Sufi dismissed the case after one of the accused withdrew their interim bail.

Meanwhile, the complainant vacated her residence and disappeared along with her family.

The case originated when a woman approached the New Town police, claiming she was gang-raped at gunpoint under the pretence of a job offer.

According to her complaint, she had met a woman who promised her employment and invited her to a commercial plaza.

Upon arrival, she was allegedly assaulted by two individuals, who then forced her to consume crystal meth for several days.

The police registered a case, but none of the accused were arrested. The female who invited her to the commercial plaza secured interim bail and denied all allegations during police interrogation.

She also requested a DNA test of the complainant to verify the claim. However, after three days of investigation, the complainant refused both a DNA and a medical board test and withdrew her allegations, submitting an affidavit to the police stating that no assault had taken place.

She later appeared in court and confirmed she would not pursue the case.

The court expressed strong displeasure over the accusations and dismissed the case, while the police officially closed the investigation. Efforts to summon the complainant for further inquiry were unsuccessful, as she had abandoned her residence.
