West Indies' Jomel Warrican wins ICC Men's Player of the Month for January
West Indies left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for January 2025 following a standout performance in Pakistan, where he played a key role in securing West Indies' first Test victory in the country in 35 years.
Warrican’s performances on Pakistan’s turning tracks were instrumental in West Indies’ success.
In the first Test in Multan, he registered career-best figures of 10/101 and contributed an unbeaten 31*, but Pakistan, led by Sajid Khan’s 9/115, secured a 127-run win.
In the second Test, Warrican’s unbeaten 36 at No.11 helped West Indies recover from 95/9 to 163. He then took four wickets in the first innings, setting up a competitive contest.
In the final innings, he delivered the match-winning spell, taking 5/27 as Pakistan were bowled out, sealing a 120-run win for West Indies—their first Test victory in Pakistan since 1990.
Warrican finished the series with 19 wickets at an average of nine and 85 runs at 42.50, earning him the Player of the Series award.
“This award is an honour," Warrican said. "One of my goals was to take my first Test five-for, but I never imagined it would be this grand. Multan now holds a special place in my heart, not only for the historic win but for earning this recognition."
This is the first time the 32-year-old has won the Player of the Month award and only the third time a West Indies player has received the honour, following Shamar Joseph and Gudakesh Motie in 2024.
