Chakwal faces acute water shortage
Due to the longest drought in Chakwal's history, wheat crops have been severely damaged, and there has been a significant shortage of water in the dams.
The city of Chakwal has traditionally received water from Khajola, Khai and Khohkar Zair dams. However, due to the prolonged drought, the absence of rainfall, and various technical and departmental issues, water is now only being supplied from Khohkar Zair Dam.
Meanwhile, with the decrease in the water level of Khai Dam due to the lack of rain, water supply to the city has been halted. Additionally, although the water supply project from Kot Raja Dam has been completed, it has not yet been formally activated.
Furthermore, the water lines coming from Khajola are damaged, and the pipeline from Dhoke Sial to Chakwal has not been connected to the water pipeline from Dharabi.
Currently, Khohkar Zair Dam remains the only source of water supply to Chakwal, and there are concerns that if the rains do not arrive, water supply from Khohkar Zair Dam may also be suspended.
