FIA, PTA launch crackdown on illegal sale of foreign SIMs
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing have launched a nationwide crackdown against individuals and businesses involved in the illegal sale of pre-activated foreign SIM cards.
According to a statement issued by PTA, the coordinated raids are part of ongoing efforts to curb telecom fraud and safeguard national security.
The operations were carried out in multiple cities, including Abbottabad, Skardu, Peshawar, Lahore, and Sialkot.
Authorities targeted individuals and businesses engaged in the unauthorized sale and distribution of foreign SIM cards, which were reportedly being used for fraudulent activities, unverified communications, and other criminal operations.
During the raids, several suspects were arrested, and a significant number of illegally activated SIM cards were seized. PTA and FIA emphasized that the unauthorized sale of such SIMs poses a serious threat to public security, as they facilitate untraceable and anonymous communications.
The agencies reaffirmed their commitment to monitoring and preventing the illegal trade of SIM cards, warning that strict action will continue against those violating telecom regulations.
