Cameron Diaz reveals shocking industry changes since her acting return

Cameron Diaz has spoken about the significant changes in Hollywood since her 11-year retirement, crediting the #MeToo movement for reshaping industry standards. 

In an interview on Netflix’s SkipIntro podcast, Diaz expressed surprise at how film sets now prioritize workplace safety, particularly highlighting Netflix’s misconduct hotline.

"The industry is so different," Diaz said. "I definitely have to say that #MeToo changed everything. It’s palpable. You walk onto the set and it is different."

Diaz, who returned to acting in Netflix’s Back in Action after last appearing in 2014’s Annie, recalled past experiences where inappropriate behavior was often ignored. She noted that HR discussions about set conduct were nonexistent in her early career.

"I have never in my entire career had HR come in prior to a movie and talk about what is appropriate and what is inappropriate behavior," Diaz said. "And there’s a hotline, which Netflix has, to call anonymously to report any issues. Wow, that is amazing."

Diaz, who initially retired from acting to focus on her personal life, remains undecided about her future in Hollywood. Speaking to Empire magazine, she said she’s keeping her options open: "I reserve the right to say no to doing a movie ever again, and I reserve the right to say yes."
