Committee shifts focus to high achievers in Karachi's inter exams investigation
A fact-finding committee set up to investigate the poor results of the 11th-grade exams in Karachi has shifted its focus to students who achieved higher scores, rather than the students who received very poor grades.
The committee, led by the Vice Chancellor of NED University, has completed its investigation into the Karachi Intermediate Board’s 11th-grade results and has identified several errors in the process. According to sources, the committee has prepared its report, which is scheduled to be presented to the Sindh Assembly on Wednesday.
The investigation was initiated after the Intermediate Board Karachi’s results revealed only 30% of students had passed. As part of the investigation, the NED University’s examination controller and his team conducted a raid on the board's office on Monday, assigning NED staff to oversee examination sections.
The committee scrutinized the papers of students who scored exceptionally high marks, as well as those who were awarded A grades without undergoing proper scrutiny. Furthermore, the committee reviewed copies that had received lower marks, instead of focusing on those requiring re-evaluation.
In its report, the committee also highlighted issues such as delays in the distribution of textbooks and incomplete syllabi. Recommendations have been put forward to prevent such issues in the future.
Under the leadership of NED Vice Chancellor Dr Soroush Lodhi, the investigation has led to suggestions for reforms to avoid similar problems in the future.
The committee confirmed that the results’ review was accurate, but some complaints and negligence have been identified, prompting the recommendation for improvements.
New members have been added to the committee, including chairman of the Charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee Nauman Ahsan and NED University’s examination controller Safi Ahmed Zaki.
