In a vocal demonstration, in front of the National Press Club, the alleged detention of Labour Party Leader Baba Jaan was vehemently protested. The leader from Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) was allegedly picked up by the security agencies. Similarly arrest of other political workers was also denounced.
The protestors, comprising of activists and political workers, demanded the Gilgit-Baltistan government to release Baba Jaan and other detained party workers of Labour Party Pakistan, Workers Party Pakistan, Progressive Youth Front and National Student Federation who were staging a peaceful protest against police torture and firing on the Attabad Lake affected people in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Aasim Sajjad from Workers Party Pakistan also criticised the arrests of political workers and leaders. “The government would not be able to suppress peoples’ voice for their rights with torture and highhandedness,” added Sajjad.
The protestors warned they would stage a bigger demonstration if the leaders and workers of their parties were not released by the government before dispersing peacefully.
