The 2025 Critics Choice Awards, hosted by Chelsea Handler, kicked off at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica after being twice delayed due to the LA wildfires. However, while Hollywood’s biggest stars dazzled on the red carpet, many viewers at home found the ceremony dull and disorganized.
Social media was flooded with criticism, with fans calling the event "painfully boring" and lacking in entertainment value. One user questioned if the lack of hype around the ceremony was because "it's just a very bad year" for entertainment while another complained, that the show was a "snooze fest".

Never in my life have I seen the Critic Choice Awards before. They are boring 🥱 or it’s just a very bad year?
Despite the backlash, the ceremony featured several high-profile nominations. Wicked and Conclave scored major wins, while the Best Picture award went to Anora. In television, FX’s Shōgun bagged the most wins.
While the night honored the best in film and television, the negative reception from viewers suggests the show may need to rethink its approach in the future.
