Indian youth embraces Islam, wants to stay in Pakistan
An Indian youth, Badal Babu, currently imprisoned in Mandi Bahauddin jail, has told the court that he wishes to stay in Pakistan, claiming that returning to India would be tantamount to a death sentence.
He stated that he has embraced Islam and fears being killed if deported.
Badal Babu, who allegedly entered Pakistan illegally to marry a Pakistani girl, remains under judicial remand. On Friday, he was presented before a local court, where he reiterated his plea to stay in Pakistan.
His lawyer, Fayyaz Ramey, informed Express News via phone that the next hearing for Badal Babu's case is scheduled for February 21.
The court has also summoned the District Police Officer (DPO) on February 12 to confirm whether the charge sheets have been filed. During the court proceedings, Badal Babu firmly stated that he does not wish to return to India under any circumstances.
He cited an incident from his village, where a young man who converted to Islam was allegedly murdered, his body found mutilated.
He expressed fears that a similar fate awaited him if he was sent back.
His lawyer further revealed that special security measures were taken for Badal Babu, who was transported separately from other prisoners.
The legal team plans to meet him in jail in the coming days to discuss the case in detail. Authorities have yet to announce a final decision regarding his deportation or continued stay in Pakistan.
