Cousin found guilty of planning attack on trailer driver

Police claimed to have arrested suspects involved in the murder of a trailer driver and robbery of batteries worth over Rs110 million, arresting the suspects, including the victim's own cousin, who was found to be involved in the crime.

District Police Officer (DPO) Kamran Mumtaz said that on the night of December 31, 2024, five suspects intercepted a trailer in the jurisdiction of Sadar police station. They shot and killed the driver, Shakeel Ahmed, when he resisted and fled with the trailer carrying batteries worth over Rs110 million. Police collected CCTV footage and other technical evidence to identify, trace and apprehend the suspects.

The investigation revealed that the mastermind behind the crime was none other than the victim's cousin, Hashim, who was also a trailer driver working for the same battery company. He conspired with his friends to rob his cousin and, when Shakeel resisted, they shot him dead.

DPO Kamran Mumtaz stated that the suspects planned to become millionaires overnight by stealing the batteries.

Police have arrested four suspects and recovered the stolen trailer and batteries worth millions, while raids are ongoing to apprehend the fifth suspect, Siddique.

The victim, Shakeel Ahmed, was a father of two children. As per the the FIR registered under Sections 302 and 390 of the Pakistan Penal Code, the Karachi-to-Rawalpindi-bound trailer driver was shot and killed in Lodhran by unidentified assailants. Sub-Inspector Muhammad Nawaz of Sadar police station reported that a wireless control message was received about a body lying beside a 22-wheeler trailer near Adda Shahanal.

Upon reaching the scene, police found that the victim had suffered three gunshot wounds to the chest. The deceased was later identified as Shakeel Ahmed, a resident of Zafarabad Tibbi Syedan, Liaquatpur, District Rahim Yar Khan. He had departed Karachi on December 27, transporting batteries to Rawalpindi when the incident occurred.
