WAPDA irregularities put under spotlight
The head of a Senate panel has noted that some audit paras with regard to the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) have been pending since 1985 while the Ministry of Water and Power does not have any records in some cases.
The Senate Standing Committee on Water Resources met on Thursday under the chairmanship of Senator Shahadat Awan to receive a briefing on the inquiries conducted by the ministry upon the recommendations of the Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC) and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the audit paras of Wapda.
Wapda officials informed the committee that 56 inquiries were conducted on the recommendations of PAC, of which 43 have been completed, 10 are in progress, and the remaining three are being investigated by the National Accountability Bureau.
They said 381 inquiries were initiated upon the recommendations of DAC, of which 308 have been completed and 67 are pending.
Senator Shahadat Awan noted that 187 audit paras have been pending.
