Police seek girl's autopsy in 'honour killing'
Police have filed a report and decided to exhume the body of a 17-year-old girl for a post-mortem examination after suspecting she was 'killed for honour' in the Syed Kasran area of Jatli police station.
While registering a report, the policeman stated that when he reached Syed Adda during his duty, he received information from sources that (N), a grade 11 student, suddenly disappeared from her home at 8pm on February 3.
Her father and uncle went in search of the student and after finding her at Syed Adda, brought her back home. Later, the next day, news of the student's death spread in the area and she was buried in a local cemetery during the day.
It is suspected that someone in the family allegedly poisoned or strangled the girl in the name of honour and buried her to hide the crime, the cop complained and requested legal action.
The police said that permission for exhuming the body would be sought from a local court for postmortem in the light of suspicious death.
When police investigators probed the girl's family, the latter stated that the girl left and later returned home but they were not aware whether she ate something. The family claimed the girl died of natural causes.
When the police further pressed why the family didn't tell the police about the sudden death. However, the girl's death at home was natural.
When contacted, Saddar SP Nabeel Khokhar confirmed the incident and said that the court would be approached for exhumation and postmortem. Legal action will be taken based on whatever report comes, he added.
Earlier, a 21-year-old girl was murdered and buried after being sexually assaulted in the Natha Chattar area of Jatli. The police have already arrested the accused.
